My healthcare career began as a physical therapy assistant, where I gained experience in diverse clinical settings including outpatient, home health, inpatient care, and skilled nursing facilities. I find immense reward in both the physiological aspects of my work and the connections I form with patients.
As Director of Rehabilitation, my leadership style is supportive and coaching-oriented. I prioritize being a team player, offering guidance, and providing unwavering support to my team. My perspective on leadership is informed by my experience on both the clinical and management sides of healthcare, enabling me to understand the challenges and opportunities from both perspectives.

Amber is a dedicated nurse leader and healthcare professional serving as the Director of Nursing at Harmony Waterloo. In August, Amber will celebrate 20 years of service within the same organization — a journey that reflects her deep commitment to long-term care, leadership, and the residents she serves each day.
Amber’s career at Harmony Waterloo began as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), where she discovered her passion for caring for others and advocating for residents. Through years of hard work, determination, and compassion, she continued advancing her career as an LPN floor nurse, later serving as Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON), before stepping into her current role as Director of Nursing (DON). Her progression through every level of nursing leadership has given her a unique perspective and deep appreciation for the work performed by every member of the healthcare team.
With two decades of hands-on experience in long-term care and skilled nursing, Amber has become known for her strong clinical leadership, dedication to quality care, and ability to lead with both accountability and compassion. She believes the foundation of exceptional healthcare begins with dignity, empathy, teamwork, and treating every resident like family.
As Director of Nursing, Amber oversees complex clinical operations while continuing to advocate for residents, support families, mentor nursing staff, and strengthen the culture of care within the facility. Her areas of passion include staff development, wound care management, fall prevention, medication safety, regulatory compliance, and creating an environment where residents and staff feel respected, supported, and valued.
The staff at Harmony Waterloo are exceptional! They listened to my concerns and took them into consideration. The therapists, Cassy and Michelle, were encouraging and helped me achieve my therapy goals of rejoining the community. Both therapists assisted me in improving more quickly and effectively than I anticipated. The nurses and CNAs here were outstanding, demonstrating great care and patience during my stay. Gwen, the social worker, was always attentive and available when I needed her. I also appreciated the variety of activities available, thanks to Denise’s hard work. The food was good, especially the desserts. I would give Harmony Waterloo a 5 out of 5-star rating and would return here if I ever need care again.

My experience at Harmony Waterloo has been phenomenal! The staff and everyone here have been incredibly attentive and caring towards me. The therapy has been nothing short of amazing. They have helped me regain my strength, allowing me to return home and see my beloved cat Tom. Thanks to the therapy, I am now confident enough to take care of myself at home. I chose Harmony Waterloo for rehabilitation because it is my favorite skilled nursing facility. This has been my third time staying here, and I always have a great experience. Michelle (Director of Rehabilitation) is fantastic. Her team is helping me to recover my strength. Justine (administrator) is also outstanding. I love how the facility feels like home, and you feel that immediately when they greet you at the door. My cat can also visit me during my stay here, making me feel more at home. I had a great rehabilitation stay at Harmony Waterloo. The physical and occupational therapy team was excellent, especially Michelle and Cassie. They motivated me to build my strength to return home to my family. The nurses were also wonderful. The housekeepers did a good job thoroughly cleaning my room every day. They had great activities like Bingo, good music, and band performances for their residents, which I really enjoyed. The food was also delicious. Overall, everything was exceptional.

I actively participate in various activities, especially community outings, and I am proud to be the President of the Resident Council. After experiencing frequent falls at home which led to needing help with showers and everyday activities, I moved into Harmony Waterloo. I’ve lived here for four years now, and it’s truly become my second home. The staff members here are incredibly supportive and play a significant role in making every day enjoyable. They assist me with daily living activities, ensuring my needs are met with care and dignity. The vibrant community atmosphere here has allowed me to make numerous friends, and the regular card games, bingo nights, and music sing-alongs keep us all lively and connected. My experience at Harmony Waterloo has been wonderful. I came for wound care and physical/occupational therapy, and everyone here has been so nice. The food is delicious, and the staff on the first shift are truly amazing, especially Nurse Jill—she’s the best at changing my wound dressings. The therapists have been fantastic in helping me regain my strength and mobility. The support and care from the entire team have made a big difference in my recovery. I would definitely recommend Harmony Waterloo to anyone in need of further care.

I recently stayed at Harmony Waterloo for the second time, and I highly recommend this facility to everyone! There are great activities, and although I was initially hesitant to participate, I regret not joining in sooner. The exercise program is excellent and I encourage everyone to take part in it. Michelle, Cassie, and Dawn were instrumental in helping me build up my strength. Calista, Angel, and Tonesha went above and beyond in their care. Calista, especially, is incredibly helpful and I believe she will make a fantastic nurse once she completes her schooling. Maya, Quita, Jess, Chrystal, and Lisa are also excellent aides. Jason and Jill are great nurses! The food is wonderful, and the staff do a fantastic job with the cooking. Maddey from Human Resources and Justine, the Administrator, are both amazing. They have truly made this place great.
If I ever need to stay in a nursing home again, Harmony Waterloo is the only place I will go! I wholeheartedly give Harmony Waterloo 5 out of 5 stars!!
